For the MURR 7000-29161-0000000 LED surge suppression, the MOV suppresses the voltage so the part doesn't exceed the voltage limit. The MOV's have an upper limit 20 to 30 volts more than the voltage of the connector. For more info attached is the data sheet which is linked below:
