For the best results when drilling out a solid insert for a strain relief fitting, it is recommended that the insert be frozen. Holes are drilled using a standard high speed drill bit of the size you need at approximately 2500 RPM, with the insert already inside the cable gland. There should be no less than 1 mm (0.04") distance between the holes. When drilling, the holes can touch the lip of the cord grip body, as it is made so that there will still be room between the hole and the body wall.
In order to meet NEMA 4X / IP 65 standards to make it submersible, the cable diameter can not be less than 80% of the hole's diameter. There should also be no more than 1 mm (0.04") difference between the diameter of the cable and the diameter of the hole.
